Double-Sided Tape Came Today!
So I finished my Monster In My Pocket Monster Mountain. All the labels were designed in Photoshop and printed on cardstock for the custom look.

Started working on this Tuesday December, 28. I wanted to create custom labels in Photoshop for the Display Case for the figurines called "Monster Mountain". It usually comes with names labels so I decided to create my own, while using the font for the only Monster In My Pocket game released on NES for each creature. I spent around 6hrs on everything so far. Designing the Labels and Testing the Sizes on my Ink Jet Printer was Tuesday. Today on Wednesday I printed the designs on "best" print setting on matte cardstock paper. Then I spent about 3 of those hours cutting out all the name tags and using permanent black marker to hide the white on the thickness of the cardstock. Waiting for the Double Sided Tape to come in the mail to finish the project.
This was probably the hardest piece I put together for my Ma and Dad. I worked on it over two days. It was a larger piece on a Super Pegboard. I practice and play a lot of piano, and my parents love Charlie Brown so I figured Schroeder would be the perfect character to give them for Christmas. The challenging part with this one came down to patience in the ironing/fusing part of the beads with wax paper, not to mention I ran out of the skin-tone beads and had to run to Michaels to get more. With larger designs its smart to use scotch tape to prevent the design from falling apart when ironing, but I ran into trouble because I didn't iron through it all the way when I went to peel it off. Half of the design got pulled up too early and I got frustrated. Also the magnetic backing was hard to cut around the shape of the character. I forgot to snap a final photo before I sent it off, it came out good though. I was able to put it back together and finish it.
The Dream Bag from the same NES game Kickle Cubicle. Fairly easy to make, took probably like 16min to assort, then an extra 4min for ironing + magnet backing and labeling. These would be the items you gather to beat the level. Apparently I never looked at the story of the game, but people were actually imprisoned in these bags by the Wicked Wizard King.
Another more ambitious sprite that I attempted named Kickle. Finished this one over a two day period. The character Kickle was easy, but doing the balloon and ironing it was a real pain, since there was a single strand and a lot of weight. I also had to use masking tape when ironing because the shapes were really irregular. It came out great though, although I got really frustrated and impatient half way through the ironing process. I used a combination of a glue gun and a full magnetic backing to get it to stay together well. It looks awesome on the fridge or dishwasher. I made this one for my sister. She loved this game growing up too. The balloon only appears when he drops into a level or when he succeeds in collecting all the people stuck in Dream Bags.
Another Monster In My Pocket Item. In this NES game you get one health bar for picking one of these up. This one was fairly quick to create (30min) because it fit on a smaller pegboard. I gave this to my brother along with the Monster, also added the magnetic back and left space to hang as ornament.
One of my hobbies is recreating the retro 8-bit nostalgia from childhood NES games. I made this for my brother over the course of 2 days. We played Monster in My Pocket a lot as kids, and he would play The Monster (which we know as Frankenstein). You get the key in the first level to pickup, so I thought it would be a nice touch to incorporate that into the character. I was more ambitious with this medium sized Perler Bead Fuse because it used a larger pegboard (51 wide x 68 tall). I added a full Magnetic Back to hang on fridge and left a hole in the top for a Christmas Ornament so its multi-functional. I really enjoy creating these though.
This was painted in Acrylic with Sharpie Marker to Outline. I finished it at 5:20 pm. I've been struggling a lot mentally this and last month and my brother suggested I give myself this art project to draw/paint/create the Armor of God. It's from Ephesians 6:10-20.
The Armor of God "10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should." Thought I would share a painting I worked on for my Dad called Music Mentor. He would always sit down with me and teach me video game songs, so I wanted to create an image of those moments. I spent a month on and off working on this, but I’m pretty happy with how it came out. I’ll be shipping it tomorrow to Elmira. |
